Types Of Wood

Classic

Classic is an extremely durable composite wood wrapped in a tough, water resistant  polyurethane coating which is resistant to scuffing, staining, cracking, chipping and fading. Ideal for areas of heavy usage and probably the most child and pet proof product in the UK market today.

By using thin sheets of MDF and bonding these together to provide an engineered core for both the panels and the frames we ensure exceptional rigidity within the product ensuring no twisting or warping. Our Classic shutters are manufactured utilising the same core processes and the same care and attention that we use in producing our hardwood shutter ranges.

This composite is our best seller in both the UK. Due to the manufacturing process it cannot be produced to fit shaped windows and is only available in a limited number of colours.

Finishes available:

  • 5 Colour finishes
  • Stained finishes not available
  • Custom colours not available

Best for:- Affordability. Durable and tough, Classic is ideal in areas where it may take any knocks, so great for children’s bedrooms and patio doors.

MarchWood

MarchWood is manufactured utilising the same high quality standards as the other substrates but by using our in depth knowledge of the shutter manufacturing process we have developed a symbiotic combination of Basswood frames and finger jointed Hardwood panels to provide a great combination of value for money and quality.

Panels and Frames:

These are manufactured in top grade, kiln dried and laminated hardwood which has the ideal mechanical properties and evenness of grain to ensure a consistency of finish, strength and rigidity. Being a lightweight wood it also provides a large amount of flexibility when it comes to designing your shutters as the weight naturally affects the expanse of window you can cover without needing extra support.

These hardwood panels are manufactured using a finger jointing method unlike our standard hardwood panels. This allows off-cuts to be utilised which saves cost. Finger joints are made using the latest Weinig machinery which produces a market leading 5mm finger joint compared to 10-14mm finger joint that the majority of other shutter manufacturers utilise.

For more information on the properties of hardwood please see our Grovewood range.

Phoenix

With its beautiful and distinctive grain, Phoenix lends itself especially to stained finishes, allowing  the natural grain to shine through.

A beautiful and stable timber, Phoenix range is manufactured utilising the same high quality standards as all substrates, creating an affordable, high quality, non finger jointed shutter with defined features and quality.

Renowned for its stability and high density Phoenix suffers from fewer dents and abrasions and is highly sustainable, offering the foundation for a dependable supply. We have carefully selected their Phoenix colour palette and included a unique range of colours and stains based on “The Winter Ocean”.

Vienna

This material is extremely hard wearing, making it ideal for commercial installations. Our Vienna shutters are manufactured using a hardwood core combined with an ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic coating. This co-polymer coating is extremely tough and resilient and is the same used in the manufacture of American football helmets.

Vienna with its ABS coating is, by its own nature, very durable and wipe-cleanable. It would be our suggested choice for high traffic areas such as playrooms or nurseries where continual cleaning is required.

Shutters made from ABS are completely waterproof.

GroveWood

Grovewood is our most versatile hardwood. Whether painted or stained, engineered Grovewood is the expert’s choice.

Grovewood is renown for being very stable with a fine and straight grain and an even texture. In addition it is lightweight and odourless. These properties have made it a favourite among wood carvers and this is reflected in the fact that it is ideal for special shape shutters and the production of louvers as it holds straight and true.

Being a lightweight wood it also provides a large amount of flexibility when it comes to designing your shutters as the weight naturally affects the expanse of window you can cover without needing extra support.

Grovewood also accepts stains very well which means you can be assured that should you choose a stained finish your shutters will have a uniform and consistent look.
