Faux Wood Shutters
Our Faux Wood UPVC shutters are made from a solid, extruded synthetic polyvinyl chloride material that has similar characteristics to real wood. The louvres have a smooth UPVC finish which, unlike painted wood, will not warp, flake or peel over time and makes them ideal for use in environments where hygiene is important. Being waterproof they are also suitable for installation in wetrooms and bathrooms, although they can be fitted in any room.
Faux Wood UPVC shutters offer the following advantages:
High strength & long life
Due to the extreme stability of the microporous structure, the mechanical properties and high compression of the compounds used, the shutters display very high strength and durability.
By assessing and adjusting the size, pressure and stability of the PVC compounds the issues that arise from using ordinary PVC products or natural wood products (that can break easily) have been overcome.
The high strength of the Faux Wood UPVC shutters offers a service life of up to 50 years.
Sound insulation & flame retardant
Because the product is formed using a high number of porous, individual bubbles, the sound- absorbing effect is approximately 5 times greater than that of ordinary concrete, giving a sound insulation co-efficiency of over 45 decibels.
The product is a Class A, non-combustible, inorganic insulation material, giving it a fire resistance limit of over 3 hours, which affords great peace of mind.
Excellent physical performance
With a very light density (approx. 650-680 kg/m2)) the UPVC product offers many other unique properties including: resistance to vibration, resistance to corrosion, water proof, high thermal and sound insulation and is easily sawn, planed and machined.
Energy efficient & environmentally friendly.
The UPVC is non-toxic, non-volatile and does not contain any lead or mercury, meaning that our profiles are made from one of the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly materials use to make shutters. They are also fully recyclable.
Real Wood Shutters
Real Wood is our best-selling plantation shutter product.
Real Wood shutters are light weight, can be painted or stained, are warp-resistant and made from a sustainable resource.
Real wood has a very straight and uniform texture. The wood grain is beautiful and staining or painting the wood brings out the natural grain. Due to its unique composition, the wood is also lighter than composite shutters, so it will not warp or twist due to normal moisture that is in the air.
Our shutters are manufactured from 100% Real Wood, we use full Real Wood frames as well as the shutter panels themselves, to provide the ultimate in strength and build quality.
The Name Venetian Blind
Window blinds made from horizontal slats as we know them were developed in 1794. They received the name venetian blinds because they originally came from Venice, Italy. These venetian blinds replaced or were used instead of fabric curtains or shutters. The origins of venetian type of blinds go back even further though. Egyptians would use reeds attached in columns. The Japanese and Chinese would also hang bamboo to cover their windows.
The Name Plantation Shutters
The name “plantation” shutters often brings to mind the image of the colonial southern United States, and that is indeed where the name comes from. Despite the name, though, plantation shutters were actually invented by the Ancient Greeks in 800 B.C. Back then, most types of window coverings consisted of cloth and wood. In cases where the government required utmost security, metal window covers would be employed, but only in rare cases. The original plantation shutters were made of marble or similar stones, this offered the people an incredibly strong cover for their window, but primarily was designed to control light and airflow, as well as offer privacy at the same time.
